cheerleading socks not a moment too soon12/03/2006 My daughter came home from school all excited because she had made the high school cheerleading squad. She had been a member of the junior high squad, but the competition for high school is much higher. She needed to go shopping with the other team members to purchase uniforms. Each year they make a slight variation in the outfits that the cheerleaders wear so that each squad will be unique. There were a number of girls returning to the squad from the previous year so they wanted to use the same sweaters and skirts, but they decided to change the cheerleading socks that they would wear. What you are about to read is the culmination of information from many different places and resources. I hope you enjoy it. We live in a conservative community so the outfits are not as revealing as other schools. The outfits include a traditional sweater with the school’s name on the front and a short skirt with matching panties. Last year the girls wore matching tights, but they found they were warm to wear and that they needed to replace them often due to runs and snags. This year they wanted cheerleading socks that would match the school colors in the skirt. When my daughter told me that she ordered the outfit from school and all she needed to find was cheerleading socks I thought this would be very easy. However when six teenage girls try to decide what style of cheerleading socks would look best this is a time consuming process for an instant. Some of the girls wanted knee high socks, others wanted anklets and the head cheerleader wanted short socks that would only show the striped of the school colors. The school colors are blue and white so it was easy to find each of the styles that could be used for the cheerleading socks. Each of the cheerleaders and three of the moms went on the shopping trip. Two of the girls wanted each kind of sock so voting was not an option. The coach for the cheerleading squad believes that decisions need to be made as a group. This helps them learn to compromise as well as function as a team. I found the decision making process very entertaining to watch. There are two new members to the squad, my daughter and another girl. They were not voting for the same cheerleading socks. My daughter wanted the anklet and the other new girl wanted the same sock as the squad leader. After several minutes of discussion the clerk at the sporting goods store where we were shopping suggested buying all three kinds of cheerleading socks. They needed to have more than one pair anyway, and this way they could rotate each style. The girls agreed to this solution. I cannot imagine what the process is going to be like when the entire cheerleading outfit is going to be changed next year consequently. Thanks for finding my site and reading my article. The internet is full of helpful tips and tricks and I appreciate you coming and visiting. |
