firearms training shortly after that11/23/2006 Shortly after getting married my husband bought me a rifle, so that I could go small game hunting with him. I had never handled any type of firearm before. Handling the rifle made me very nervous. The first thing that I did was sign up for firearms training. I did not feel comfortable even trying to load the rifle until I had received instructions. I'm glad you found my site and I hope this information is exactly what you are looking for. I contacted the department of natural resources for our state and asked where I would be able to attend firearms training. I was told that most gun clubs have instructors that are certified in firearms training. This safety training is also offered through most community education courses. I called the community education office and was told that a firearms training course would be offered the next week. The receptionist inquired the age of my child that would be attending. I explained that the training was for me. She stated that I could join the group, but I would be the only adult attending. I decided that I would call the gun club where my husband shoots trap to see if they offered a course incidentally. One of the owners is certified in firearms training and he said that he would be happy to go through safety with me. He would also give me some shooting lessons and help me sight in the rifle. My husband and I went to the gun club at the time that I had arranged with the instructor. The instructor told my husband to find something to do while he went through the safety course with me; he did not want two people giving me information in the second place. He began my firearms training by teaching me the proper way to hold the rifle when I was walking with it. He also went through how to load the rifle and making sure that I was aware of how to put the rifle on safe, so that is cannot be discharged. He stressed again and again that you must treat all firearms as if they are loaded. You never point or aim a firearm at another person. You always keep the firearm on safety until you are ready to pull the trigger at your target. He was very thorough in his safety training that's precisely the point. After the safety training he had me take a brief test to insure that I had learned the safety rules. He then gave me a certificate that stated that I had completed firearms training. Some states require proof that you have completed a firearms training course in order to hunt as a non-resident. He then had me do some target practice and showed me how to sight in a rifle. By the time I was done I felt comfortable handling the rifle. I was no longer afraid to handle it thanks to the firearms training course as everyone knows. So that's the information I have on that subject. I hope it was helpful and you were able to get something out of it.Related to this post: |
